Random Thought
I find it so interesting how we interact with one another on campus. Sometimes we smile at each other, but most often I find others (I, myself included) looking to the ground, their cell phones, or in another direction, all to avoid any awkwardness. We all know how much a smile from someone (or anyone) can make our day. So my friend and I made up a game. The object of the game is to smile at every person that we see. If they smile back we win, and if they don't we win as well; for keeping eye contact and not being afraid to simply be friendly to our fellow students and Professors, or anyone in that matter.

I love this! I always try to smile at people when I'm walking around, it just makes your day go better. But it's true, it is often hard to just get people to look at you to give them a smile.
ReplyDeleteI should start doing this! I always think about it, but then I shy away from it...I do it sometimes though. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI find myself not smiling/looking at people very often. It is not because I am not friendly or because I am shy, but usually because I am busy with my mind on other things. I think you are right that it is important for our own happiness and the happiness of others that we make a conscious effort to smile at those around us! It is a win-win situation.
ReplyDeleteAgreed! Smiling always makes the day better. Especially when two strangers smile at each other. i don't know why that is, but it's true!
ReplyDeleteI think another deterrent is people and their mp3 players. I need to write a post about this, but people are so absorbed with their own bubble they are often oblivious of the people around them.
ReplyDeleteSo I totally felt like people were really closed off from each other when I was a freshman so me and my friends decided to do the same thing. We smiled at anyone that would make eye contact with us. It was hard at first, but I was surprised at how many people would smile back and even say "good morning." I don't think people are as closed as we think they are, people are just busy and stressed and sometimes need a reminder that it helps to smile once in a while.
ReplyDeleteI love this. I love you! I miss you lots. And I am so happy you have a blog so I can keep up to date on your London (so exciting!) adventures, and your life in general. You're one of my favorite people ever Marlena! Hopefully we can see each other soon!
